Hello There!
Everyone is on a journey. They all look different and similar; each as unique as another. Right now, we’re in a time where most of our journeys look pretty similar since we’re mostly all stuck at home right now.
I bet you’re wondering what ‘sojourning wayfinder’ means. To sojourn is “to stay somewhere temporary” according to the Oxford dictionary. A wayfinder is “a sign, landmark, or other indicator used to assist people in navigating to a particular location” also from the Oxford dictionary. I first heard these two words around the time Moana came out. The word sojourner came up in Genesis with Abraham (Genesis 23:4). Wayfinding came into play when I watched Moana since this is how the ancient Polynesians traveled the Pacific ocean. I love the combination of these words because it’s what life is — a temporary journey as we get closer to our journey’s goal. Together they remind me that while I feel that I am in a disorienting empty space (like the middle of the ocean), in a thick fog, walking a clear path — there is a direction I need to go based off my wayfinder even though I might not be able to clearly see my wayfinder. I believe that God is my wayfinder and will guide me on the path He has marked for me. He does this through my interactions with others, through the Bible, prayer and countless other ways. Some days, it’s simple to see His clear direction for my life but often times it’s hard to know what His path is for me. Regardless of what I choose though God is still going to use me in the ways He’s intended to.
That being said, this blog is a step I’m taking to see where God leads me. Is He going to be mentioned in all of the posts? Maybe but food, travel, games and so many other things will be as well. I do not intend to force God onto people but in my life He is important and I am not going to minimize what He does. I want this blog to showcase my journey in the ups, downs and middles; the silly things that happen and the things that I’m excited for; and what I love.
My passions are food, travel and people, not necessarily in that order. I love to explore and see all that I can when I’m in a new place. If I ever planned a solo trip, I will have to be very careful no to cram too much into every single day. I dream big when it comes to travel and food. I want to be immersed as quickly and completely as possible despite having very limited time where I find myself. I want to be like a local, understand the culture and know the people. I want to know people as I do these new things and experience the world around me. I want to push myself to try new things, though at times I need a push to do that.
I am grateful to live in a time where traveling is easy and technology is allowing us to see places we can’t currently and interact with our friends and family near and far. Do I like being stuck in my house because of the Covid lock down? Not particularly, but it is a chance to be uncomfortable and explore in different ways. Are all of the ‘new’ things going to be a complete success? No, not at all but there still will be good things that come out this. I have been able to play more games with my roommates, watch some movies with them, make things I haven’t made before or try things in new ways. While I would rather be in the places we all thought we’d be, this is where we’ve been called to be at this moment. So let’s dig in together and see where life takes us.
